Truck dispatch questions, answered

Short answers about fees, the rigs we dispatch, how you approve loads, paperwork and factoring, with links to the full explanation.

Fees and contract

01How much does GearLoads charge?

A percentage of the gross revenue of each load you haul: 5% for one truck with authority older than 6 months, 4% for fleets of two or more trucks for a limited time, and 7% while your MC is under 6 months old and for 26 ft box trucks and hotshots. There is no setup fee and no minimum.

02Is there a contract?

No long-term contract. Dispatch is month-to-month, and you can cancel with 30 days notice. There are no minimum loads or minimum fees, and if you don't haul, you don't pay: the fee is charged only on loads you actually move.

03What does the fee include?

Finding loads on the major load boards and through direct broker and shipper contacts, negotiating every rate, broker calls and carrier packets, check calls and delivery confirmations, planning deadhead and backhauls, detention and layover claims, a weekly earnings report, and a dispatch desk that answers around the clock.

Equipment we dispatch

01Which trucks do you dispatch?

Fourteen kinds of rigs, all treated equally: 26 ft box trucks, hotshots, dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, step decks, power only, car haulers, oversize and heavy haul, dump trucks, tankers, hazmat tankers, hopper bottoms and livestock trailers. If your setup is unusual, call and ask before you apply.

02Do you dispatch cargo vans or small box trucks?

No. Our minimum is a 26 ft box truck, and we don't dispatch cargo vans, sprinters or box trucks shorter than 26 ft. The loads we book and the brokers we work with are set up for 26 ft boxes and larger equipment, so smaller vehicles aren't a fit for our desk.

How loads are booked

01Do I have to take every load you find?

No. We find and negotiate the load, then call you with the details before anything is booked. If you say no, we keep looking, with no fee and no penalty. The broker sends the rate confirmation straight to you, you read it and you sign it. We never sign a rate con for you.

02Can you guarantee loads or a weekly income?

No, and be careful with anyone who does. Freight changes week to week with the season, the lane and the market. What we can promise is the work: we look for loads that fit your rig and your floor rate, negotiate each one, and bring you only offers worth your time.

03Can I keep my own customers?

Yes. You stay a carrier with your own authority and your own relationships. Tell us about your regular customers and lanes when you sign up, so we plan loads around them instead of against them, and we agree up front how any load you book yourself is treated.

How dispatch starts

Permits and paperwork

01Can you help with a new MC authority?

Yes. We dispatch new authorities from day one, at 7% while the MC is under 6 months old. We set up your carrier packets with brokers, and we look for brokers who work with new authorities, since some won't. You still need your own authority, insurance and registrations in place.

02Who handles oversize permits and escorts?

Before an oversize load is offered to you, we confirm with the broker or shipper who orders the permits and escorts, who pays for them and how they appear on the rate confirmation. On many heavy haul loads they are billed as separate lines. Nothing about the permits is left for you to find out at the yard.

Factoring

01Do I have to factor to use your dispatch?

No. Factoring is optional and never a condition of dispatch. If you want faster payment on your invoices, we can introduce you to our factoring partner, RTS Financial, and you can compare their quote with any other factoring company. You are free to use any factor you choose, or none.

02Do you earn anything from factoring?

We may earn a referral fee if you sign up with RTS Financial through us. It doesn't change the rate or terms they offer you. Your factoring agreement is between you and them, and any questions about advances, fees or reserves are answered by their team.
